TCH Awards – Introducing the Judges!

Che Donald is the National Vice-Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales. We welcome Che as one of our judges for the inaugural This Can Happen Awards, launched this year to celebrate and recognise companies and individuals who have shown excellence in their approach towards supporting mental health in their workplaces.

Che was elected to the Police Federation of England and Wales National Board in 2014. Since then he’s been responsible for conducting crucial research into the link between demand, capacity and welfare. He brings together decision-makers and stakeholders in policing, seeking effective solutions to improve conditions for police officers. Che believes that with access to higher standards of care for their own wellbeing, police officers can deliver a better service to the public.

He spoke to us about his involvement on the This Can Happen Awards panel.

TCH: “What motivated you to become a judge on the This Can Happen Awards?”

Che: “Breaking down the barriers and stigma associated with mental health in the workplace is vitally important, as is providing a work environment which encourages and supports positive mental health and wellbeing.”

TCH: “Why do you think the awards are so important?”

Che: “TCH really highlighted the importance of breaking down barriers at their event last year.   Creating awards which recognise industries and individuals encouraging, practicing and delivering on best practice in workplace mental health is not only long overdue but important so that this work is celebrated, and can be replicated across work environments.”

TCH: “What will you be looking for when judging an entry?”

Che: “I am interested to see innovative, creative and scalable initiatives that organisations are implementing.”

The awards are open to all workplaces who champion mental health, irrespective of size or sector. We welcome diverse entries.

Entries are welcome from June 4th 2019 until September 12th and the winners will be announced at an awards evening in Central London on Thursday 21st November 2019.
