Brian Dow became the CEO of Mental Health UK in 2016.
While he started his career as a journalist and producer at the BBC, Brian found that his passion lay in campaigning for social causes; a realisation that motivated his move into the third sector.
Brian has since become a dedicated campaigner, helping to improve the lives of those severely affected by mental illness, initially as Director of External Affairs at Rethink Mental Illness and as co-chair of the National Suicide Prevention Alliance.
Since taking up his role as CEO, Brian has overseen the creation of Mental Health and Money Advice, the only advice service in the UK specifically designed for people experiencing a combination of mental health and money problems. He also worked closely with Lloyds Banking Group and Channel 4 to produce #GetTheInsideOut, a UK wide campaign that helped to fight the culture of silence that still surrounds mental illness.
The next significant project for Mental Health UK is Bloom, a UK-wide programme which supports young people’s mental health resilience. Delivered in schools and colleges, Bloom will equip young people with the tools and knowledge to maintain their mental health through life’s transitions, and aims to support 100,000 young people throughout the UK.
